You don’t have to live with the Windows 11 Start button in the middle of your taskbar, whether you’ve been using Windows 11 since its release or have waited to upgrade.

The Windows 11 Start Button is a small button that shows the Windows logo, it’s central to the Windows user experience thus, often used, so should be in a position you are comfortable with.
A little off-topic but a friend of mine used to move the Recycle Bin from the top left to the bottom right, used to drive me nuts, but they liked it, so each to their own I guess at least where UI is concerned.
In previous Windows versions, it used to appear on the bottom left by default. The button within the newer Windows 11 taskbar, however, appears in the centre of the bar, by default.
This puts a lot of our customers off from upgrading, as the thought of a new looking interface in Windows 11 to deal with is just too much work, even if it pretty much is exactly like Windows 10.
So fear not, the Start button can be moved back to the bottom left corner of the screen if you know where to look 🙂
Moving the Start button in Windows 11
- Go to Settings and open it.
Click the Start button and look in the pinned apps section. You can find it by clicking All Apps and scrolling down.
To launch Settings quickly, press the Windows button and type Settings.
- In the Settings app, select Personalization.
In the left-hand menu, you’ll find this option.
- Open the Taskbar by clicking it.
Scroll down to the bottom.
- Choose Taskbar Behaviours.
Select Taskbar Alignment from the drop-down menu.
- Change the Taskbar Alignment from Center to Left.

The Windows 11 Start button immediately moves back to the place it has always been.
Which do you favour? The Windows 11 Start button within the centre or within the left corner? Tell us within the comments 🙂
That is it, so if you use a laptop or desktop pc you can now return the start button taskbar position with these methods above, may the force of options forever be in our favour!
Best Tip: Another way to do it is just filling up your taskbar with icons, it soon moves to the left ;), but for those that don’t like too many icons, the above method works best from the off.
