The weakness, discovered by Google researchers, found 2 vulnerabilities named Meltdown and Spectre…
These new vulnerabilities slip past most Anti-virus software (not our Virus Removal as we use multiple cloud-based instances) but these vulnerabilities make popular processors along with their user’s data extremely exposed and vulnerable, not one type of chip is affected this includes chips created by Intel, AMD (Advanced Micro Devices), and ARM.
The technical school world especially is receiving agitation over “Meltdown” and “Spectre” 2 ways of exploiting a security vulnerability found in Intel, AMD, and ARM processors that, between them, threaten the majority of PCs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, despite manufacturer or software system.
Meltdown and Spectre: Intel AMD ARM Processor Security Flaws summary.
Intel processors engineered since 1995 reportedly are targeted by Meltdown, whereas Spectre effects devices running on Intel, AMD, and ARM processors no matter the age.
AMD said there was a “near zero risk” its chips may well be exploited by the second Spectre attack, a code with updates from OEMs containing fixes like Intel’s IBRS firmware fix or Google’s code has all been released
However, by now it’s a bit like trying to plug holes in a sinking ship if you are already infected.
The Meltdown and Spectre flaws
These two connected vulnerabilities slip past most Virus Removal services (thas why we offer a better solution) then continue to modify a large variety of data exposed from each processor, with significantly severe flaws for Intel and a few ARM chips.
These were originally disclosed to private chip corporations, software system developers, and cloud computing suppliers, but have gradually been released to the public.
Apple explains during this post however it’s free for iOS devices and Macs, thus mitigates against Meltdown and Spectre; Goggle summarizes the standing of its services here, together with the operating system.
Therefore, the Chrome browser (which had a very important update on January 23) the number one search engine company also has explained the steps they’ve taken to secure Goggle Cloud.
How can you protect yourself?
We advise our clients to update their computer or operating system to the latest version, as stated above this affects most devices from Intel to AMD along with ARM. So you should probably update your computer or laptop
That means Apple computers, tablets, phones, everything. With a new update, it ensures any said patch has been applied to avoid any (future) vulnerabilities.
If you are unsure how to do this, we suggest you ask a computer friend or your local computer repair technicians.
However, if you are already infected by Meltdown and Spectre then chances are the patch is a little too late, in this case, we would advise a computer technician to carry out a full Virus, Malware and Rootkit scan along with removal.
